Here’s a pretty simple tip on how to build a robot. This tip can help those who are new at electronics and have some basic knowledge but need a little guidance. The first thing you need is a robot motor driver. It doesn’t matter if the robot motor is powered by batteries or gasoline. You’ll just need the correct driver to get the job done.
I’m assuming here that you know how to hook up the sensors and circuits to a robot. If you don’t, then please read on. Before you do any of this, you need to set your power requirements. This will be different for each circuit thingy and you should make sure to follow the manufacturers instruction on how to set up and wire up your system. Not doing so could be dangerous.
When testing your robot, I recommend that you use the default settings. The default setting of most robots is to run off of a 12 volt battery. This is fine for most hobbyists. I recommend switching it to a NiMh type battery. A NiMh battery has much greater capacity for a beginner.
Once you’ve verified that your robot has the correct battery, you’re ready to move onto the next step. Most people start their robotics journey with an arduino Uno board. The reason why I say this is because it’s the easiest to learn programming a microcontroller based robot. The reason why I say this is because it’s really easy to program an arduino based robot, you just have to follow the tutorials.
After you’ve programmed your robot, you’re ready to move onto the next step which is to build the actual robotic platform. For this part, you need to make sure that all of your sensors, motors and microcontrollers are located in the right place. You can determine what each of your sensors should be locating on the top plate of your robot by checking your robot’s checklist. Once you’ve done all of these, you can now install the screws on your top plate and attach the frame onto your platform (I prefer my robot to have a head, but it doesn’t really matter).
Building A Robotic Platform
The last major thing you need to know about building a robot is about putting your robot together. If you’re a beginner, I would highly suggest making a robot kit. When making a robot kit, it helps to know what type of robot parts list you’re working off of. This is because there are specific robot parts that go together and without a specific list, you may have some trouble attaching some of your motors together.
Building robots is a big deal in the robotics industry. It’s very interesting and rewarding to build robots and see them work. The robotics industry has been around for a long time, but I don’t think anyone knows everything about it. There are a lot of cool ideas behind robots that we just haven’t found yet, but with some research and knowledge, you could have a great new project soon.
